Keeping up with the key breakthroughs of TSMC! Lee, Jae Yong reaffirm the world's number one vision for logic chips

Yesterday (20), Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae Yong inspected the company's first wafer production line V1 based on extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) technology. During this period, Lee, Jae Yong made it clear again that Samsung Electronics will become the world's number one in the field of logic chips by 2030.

According to BusinessKorea, Samsung Electronics pointed out that Lee Jae Yong (Lee, Jae Yong) had a field meeting with the president of the DS business unit after visiting the plant's EUV production line yesterday. Samsung's Device Solutions Division (DS) includes two important product lines, semiconductors and displays. The meeting also seemed to show Lee, Jae Yong's determination.

It is understood that the V1 production line started in February 2018 with an investment of about 6 billion U.S. dollars. If the entire line is completed in the future, the total investment is expected to reach 20 trillion won.

"V1 includes Ultra Violet and Victory," said an executive at Samsung Electronics. "We plan to make additional investments in the V1 line based on future market conditions."

At the same time, Samsung Electronics judged that mastering the EUV process is critical to keeping up with TSMC. Because the semiconductor circuit is engraved on the wafer by using a short-wave ultraviolet light source, compared with the ArF method, the advanced process can produce finer circuits. It is suitable for ultra-fine processes below 10 nanometers and is used to prepare high-performance, low-power semiconductors. The essential.

On Samsung Electronics' V1 production line, in addition to 7-nanometer chips, 5-nm and 3-nm semiconductors will also be produced. It is reported that 7-nanometer products that will be mass-produced from early February will be delivered to customers worldwide in March.

Lee Jae Yong also told employees that day, "Last year, we sowed the seeds of the goal of becoming a system semiconductor leader, and today, we are the first to achieve this goal."
