Packaging & ESD

Industry-standard static shielding packaging is used for electronic components.Anti-static, light-transparent materials allow easy identification of ICs and PCB assemblies.
The packaging structure provides electrostatic protection based on Faraday cage principles. This helps protect sensitive components from static discharge during handling and transportation.

All products are packed in ESD-safe anti-static packaging. Outer packaging labels include part number, brand, and quantity for clear identification. Goods are inspected prior to shipment to ensure proper condition and authenticity.

ESD protection is maintained throughout packing, handling, and global transportation. Secure packaging provides reliable sealing and resistance during transit. Additional cushioning materials are applied when required to protect sensitive components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SP1220-01ETG be used to protect a 5V logic line without causing too much loading?
SP1220-01ETG is a better fit for 5V-style rails and slow control lines than for high-speed buses. Its 290 pF junction capacitance can add noticeable loading, so SP1220-01ETG is usually placed on GPIO, switch inputs, low-speed UART, or connector-exposed lines rather than fast data paths. If the protected node is sensitive to capacitance or edge-rate loss, a lower-capacitance TVS is typically a better match.
Is SP1220-01ETG suitable for automotive 12V battery or load-dump protection?
SP1220-01ETG is an AEC-Q101: qualified TVS, but its 5.75 V reverse standoff and 11 V clamp are aimed at low-voltage rails, not direct battery-line energy handling. On a 12V automotive supply, SP1220-01ETG is generally used only on localized 5V or 3.3V sub-rails after regulation, not as the first-stage protector for load dump, jump-start, or long cable transients.
Where should SP1220-01ETG be placed on the PCB for the best clamping behavior?
SP1220-01ETG should be placed as close as practical to the connector or entry point it is protecting, with a very short, low-inductance path to the reference node. The clamp voltage of SP1220-01ETG can rise during fast events if trace inductance is high, so wide copper, short routing, and a solid return path help the device perform closer to its intended clamp level.
Can SP1220-01ETG protect a high-speed interface such as USB, MIPI, or RF?
SP1220-01ETG is usually not the first choice for high-speed or RF paths because its 290 pF capacitance is relatively high. That level of capacitance can distort edges, reduce bandwidth, or upset impedance control. SP1220-01ETG is more appropriate for slower digital lines, exposed control signals, or power-related nodes where added capacitance is acceptable.
Is SP1220-01ETG appropriate for replacing an older SOD-882 TVS on a 5V rail?
SP1220-01ETG can often replace another SOD-882 TVS if the original device has a similar footprint, reverse standoff voltage, and clamp behavior. Before using SP1220-01ETG as a drop-in replacement, verify leakage at the operating voltage, capacitance, peak pulse rating, and the protected IC’s absolute maximum input rating. A footprint match alone does not guarantee electrical equivalence.
What should I check before migrating from SP1220-01ETG to SP1250-01ETG?
SP1220-01ETG and SP1250-01ETG are in the same Littelfuse SP1220 family, but they should still be compared at the system level before a migration. Check the standoff voltage, breakdown range, clamping behavior, and capacitance against the target rail and signal type. If the protected circuit is close to its voltage margin, even a small change in TVS characteristics can affect leakage, residual voltage, or normal operation.
Can SP1220-01ETG be used on a 3.3V signal line?
SP1220-01ETG may be usable on some 3.3V lines if the interface can tolerate its 5.75 V standoff and higher-capacitance loading, but it is not a universal fit. For sensitive 3.3V IC inputs, the main questions are leakage during normal operation and whether the clamped voltage still stays within the downstream device’s transient tolerance. SP1220-01ETG is often better suited to 5V domains or lower-speed 3.3V control lines than to precision or very fast interfaces.
Does SP1220-01ETG work well for reverse polarity or AC/bipolar signals?
SP1220-01ETG is a unidirectional TVS diode, so it is intended for circuits with a defined polarity. For AC-coupled or bipolar signals, SP1220-01ETG can distort the waveform or conduct undesirably in one direction. In those cases, a bidirectional TVS or a different protection strategy is usually more appropriate.
How does SP1220-01ETG behave in industrial temperature and long-life designs?
SP1220-01ETG is rated for -40°C to 125°C and carries automotive qualification, which supports use in harsh environments when the operating voltage and surge profile are within its limits. In long-life industrial designs, the usual checks are leakage drift, surge derating versus ambient temperature, and board-level thermal performance of the SOD-882 footprint. SP1220-01ETG is typically most reliable when it is not run continuously near its clamping or power dissipation limits.
Is SP1220-01ETG a good choice when the protected line needs very low leakage or very low capacitance?
SP1220-01ETG is less suitable when the design needs minimal loading, because its 290 pF capacitance is comparatively high for modern low-capacitance protection needs. If the line is a high-impedance sensor input, a fast serial link, or a circuit where normal-mode loading must stay very low, SP1220-01ETG may affect signal integrity. In that situation, a lower-capacitance TVS with a matching standoff voltage is usually the better design path.
