Orders double in the second half of the year, AMD is expected to become TSMC's largest 7nm customer

According to the Apple Daily report, supply chain sources point out that as Apple's next-generation mobile phone chip shifts to the 5nm process, AMD will become the largest customer of TSMC's 7nm process in the second half of 2020.

It is reported that in the first half of 2020, TSMC's monthly production capacity of 7nm wafers exceeded 110,000. The top five customers are Apple, Huawei Hisilicon (which has begun to sell), Qualcomm, AMD and MediaTek.

It is understood that AMD currently uses TSMC's 7nm process products including Zen 2 processors, Navi 10 and Navi 14 GPU chips. In addition, the Zen 3 architecture CPU and RDNA 2 GPU to be released in 2020 will also use TSMC's N7 + process.

As TSMC is expanding its 7nm production line, its monthly production capacity is expected to expand to 140,000 pieces by the second half of 2020. Supply chain news also pointed out that AMD's 7nm orders will double in the second half. With the introduction of Apple's A14 processor in the 5nm process, AMD surpassed Hisilicon and Qualcomm to become TSMC's largest customer at 7nm.

Specifically, AMD will obtain 30,000 wafers per month, accounting for 21% of TSMC's total 7nm capacity. Hisense and Qualcomm will account for 17-18%, MediaTek will have 14%, and the remaining 29% Divided by other customers.
