Enter the low-end 5G mobile phone market? Rumors that Huawei will import MediaTek's next-generation 5G SoC

On the evening of November 8, industry insiders said on Weibo that although Huawei owns the Heis Kirin 990 chip in 5G, it will introduce a more cost-effective MediaTek MT6873 chip if it wants to cut into the 5G mobile phone market within 2,000 yuan.

According to the previous report of the micro-network, MediaTek's first 5GSoC "MT6885" launched in the first quarter of next year has been adopted by many mainland mobile phone manufacturers. According to Taiwan media, the performance of this product is better than that of competitors such as Qualcomm and Samsung.

It is understood that MediaTek's MT6885 chip is produced by TSMC's 7-nanometer process. It is expected that in the first quarter of next year, the client will have a 5G mid-to-high-end new machine equipped with the chip.

In addition, MediaTek may launch a second 5G SoC "MT6873" in the first half of next year, focusing on the lower-middle-end market, and will also adopt 7-nanometer process production, with a high probability of being put into production by the end of this year.

According to industry insiders, Huawei will use MediaTek's MT6873 as the low-end 5G platform, and the RF part will be paired with Skyworks' 5G PA.

Recently, Huawei's managing director and operator BG Ding Wei said in an interview that 5G will bring interactive broadband experience upgrades to consumers, such as 5G VR/AR. At the same time, consumers are calling for 5G that everyone can afford. It is expected that entry-level 5G terminals of 1000-2000 yuan will be launched in 2020.
